The Radialware Comet Server
VERSION 2 PUBLIC BETA NOW AVAILABLE:
The new release of the Radialware Comet Server will introduce the concept of views. A view will allow
a single publisher to target specific channel feeds to one or more subscribers. This new feature in
combination with several performance enhancements will make version 2 a worthwhile upgrade. The first
public beta is now available. Please see the downloads section to obtain a copy.
Now supports 64 bit Windows 2008 Server and SQL Server 2008!
Traditional web sites are designed so that your customers have to constantly
reload your company's web page to obtain new information. With the Radialware
Comet Server you can push information to your customers without requiring
their interaction.
Consider a page containing stock quotes. On a typical web page containing one or
more stock quotes a user would have to reload the page whenever the new price data
is needed. If you built a web page using our Comet Server a user would open the
web page using a regular web browser but you would be able to change data on the page
on the fly!
As the name of the product suggests, we use an adaptation of the Comet protocol. On
a normal web page a user's browser will request a web page and then immediately
disconnect. The Comet protocol is designed to force a browser to maintain an open
connection to the server so that the server can send data continuously or on demand.
This makes the Radialware Comet Server ideal for applications such as:
- Customer support online chat sessions
- Stock tracking
- Remote monitoring of industrial and medical real-time data
- News alerts and broadcasts
There are a few commercial products available but our product is different. Not only
is it stable, fast, and a platform on which you can build sophisticated Web 2.0
applications, but it is also FREE!
To see our server in action, please see our samples. Please note, these
samples require that your firewall allow traffic on port 81. If your
firewall disallows port 81, you will not be able to establish a connection with
the Comet Server.
